Small Changes, Lasting Impact: Sustainability at Utah Escapes
The landscapes surrounding our homes are a big part of why people visit Utah. From Moab’s red rock country to Kanab’s wide-open skies and Park City’s mountain trails, these places make an ordinary getaway feel extraordinary. Taking care of them starts with the choices we make every day.
At Utah Escapes, we approach sustainability through practical improvements in how we manage our vacation rentals. Our focus is on reducing unnecessary waste, making recycling easier, and using technology to manage energy thoughtfully—all while keeping our homes comfortable and welcoming.
Refill, Reuse, Repeat
A fresh shower after a day on the trail is one of life’s simple pleasures. It also doesn’t need to come with a handful of tiny plastic bottles.
We use Public Goods amenities in refillable dispensers, allowing us to replenish guest essentials without replacing an individual bottle for every stay. It’s a straightforward change that reduces the need for single-use packaging and gives guests convenient access to the amenities they need.
Across many homes and many guest visits, small changes like this become part of a better routine.
Making Recycling Easier
Guests shouldn’t have to spend their vacation solving the mystery of which bin goes where.
We prioritize recycling options wherever local services support them, with an emphasis on making those options easy to find and understand. Recycling programs vary between communities, so clear, property-specific guidance matters. What belongs in a recycling bin in one town may need different handling in another.
We encourage guests to follow the instructions provided at their home and keep food, liquids, and other nonaccepted materials out of recycling containers. A little care helps the available system work as intended.
Smarter Energy Use Between Stays
A comfortable home is essential when guests arrive. Between reservations, however, a vacant home doesn’t need the same heating and cooling settings as an occupied one.
We embrace technology that helps us manage those transitions, using smart thermostat features and remote monitoring where available to adjust temperatures during vacancies and prepare homes for incoming guests. The goal is to reduce unnecessary heating and cooling while maintaining appropriate temperatures to protect the property and its systems.
Thoughtful energy management also depends on the basics: maintaining equipment, responding to performance issues, and helping guests understand how to use each home’s thermostat.
During your stay, keeping windows and doors closed while the heating or air conditioning is running is a simple way to help the system work efficiently.
A Shared Effort
Sustainability is an ongoing part of caring for a home and the place around it. We continue looking for practical ways to improve, and our guests help make those efforts successful.
Bring a reusable water bottle for your adventures. Use the recycling options available at your property. Turn off lights when heading out for the day. Treat the trails, neighborhoods, and public lands you visit with care.
None of these choices needs to complicate your vacation. Together, they help us welcome guests thoughtfully and care for the Utah destinations we’re fortunate to call home.
Enjoy the adventure. Help care for the place that makes it possible.
